It is an honor and inspiration to work as a consultant for the media artist Ya-Wen Fu as part of the Taiwanese Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) international exchange program, funded by the Taipei City Department of Cultural Affairs. Fu’s Interactive installation- and sound performance offer remarkable explorations of body, space, and time, impressing with their hypnotic quality and profound aesthetics. In her works, she invites the audience to engage with the subtle nuances of movement and the harmonious fusion of body and space. These slowly unfolding works demand mindfulness and provide an intense, emotional experience that lingers long after.

From August 26 to 30, 2024, Ya-Wen Fu has the opportunity to visit researchers at the STIMULATE research campus at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg to gain insights into the expertise of the research teams and a med-tech perspective on the body.

In Fu's interactive installation performances, her body plays a central role, enhanced by mechanical apparatuses. This combination creates a precise and powerful aesthetic that transforms the space into an energetically charged field where strong tensions are palpable. Fu's artistic works are characterized by exceptional precision and sensitivity, impressively highlighting both the fragility and the strength of the human body.

My exploration of body language at the intersection of analog and digital worlds focused on digital extensions of the body. I am fascinated by Ya-Wen Fu's physical apparatus and also by the question of what artistic expression can be added through supplementary digital extensions.
